Researchers in Australia are intensively studying the bush tomato, a desert food known to Australian Aborigines. The bush tomato, also known as the desert raisin, has great potential as a food source. Researchers have found that the bush tomato uses an extensive underground root system to reproduce. Researchers have also found ways to combat the insect pests that prey on the bush tomato.

The native food industry in Australia is growing rapidly and the two best products are likely to be the bush tomato and wattle seeds.

(this is an extract from this mag (I think): http://www.foodaust.com.au/. ) The problem is that we can't find a reference to the article in the current issue, so I don't know whether that's a pre-publication or what.
